The pineal gland regulates the state of mind and is surrounded by the limbic system of the emotional brain that involves the experience of feelings;such as fears, joy, anxiety, anger, pleasure and so on. It modulates the brain’s emotional centers and demonstrates the natural relationship between visual thoughts and emotions, combined in producing natural activities and how we experience ourselves through the perception of reality created.
The pineal gland is involved in the production of melanin;the hormone that determines skin colour( race). Not sounding racially discriminative here!! But it does. Further, this human gland regulates natural body cycles, harmonizes with the sun cycle, which denotes the higher mind in a human being, animal energies of our subconscious which is governed by the moon cycles.
Discussing the moon cycles, brings me to discuss the concept of darkness with an anecdote of how darkness works. Now, darkness produces melatonin in the human body that blocks the reproductive functioning and shrinks the sexual organs that stimulate the pineal gland. Contrary to the impact of darkness, light causes the pineal gland to shrink and reduce melatonin production that increases sexual function. Therefore, back in the days, the mystics, now known as lightworkers, lived in caves and were celibate.
Furthermore,in spiritual terms, the pineal gland is known as the third eye chakra or Ajna Chakra in Hinduism. The third eye chakra is our connection to source and to spirit.Through an open and vibrant third eye,we as human beings, find the source of ethereal energy. Also, in Hindu scriptures,it is the third eye chakra that represents clairvoyance and intuition. In Buddhism, the pineal gland is linked to spiritual awakening. All animals have a pineal gland too, hence we hear these colloquial terms, “It was my animal instinct that…”;and often is perceived as the gateway to soul liberation.
Adding an anecdote of the spiritual lens, the pineal gland is the bridge between the inner and outer worlds. A French philosopher,Descartes, has rightly termed it as “The seat of the soul”.The pineal gland is associated with the 6th Chakra in the human body known as the “Ajna” known as the third eye which is located between the eyebrows. As per ancient yogis who wrote The Vedas in India between 1500-500BC stated that the third eye chakra is the pathway to physiological and psychic energy transmission along the body to better understand ourselves.
High level of psychic energy is said to be accumulated in the pineal gland of the brain. When the pineal gland is active and open,we see various signs and synchronicities that point us in the right direction.
“When we begin to see each other through what the metaphysician calls, the third eye,we begin to know each other on a level that is beyond what our physical eyes can see” Marianne Williamson
Symbolically, the third eye represents union on the path of consciousness, inner knowing and intuition. The place where ego is left behind and the concept of duality begins to unwind to embrace unity and oneness.
It is said that the pineal gland appears more hardened as we age.The head center is known to be the gateway for self awareness which leads to understanding one’s true self and developed expression. Further, being a part of the endocrine system,it impacts the internal body clock. Hence, the pineal gland becomes highly active at night, during sleep. In the morning, when light hits the eye,the retina sends signals to the pineal gland that decreases melatonin production.
