Chakras in Sanskrit literature means "wheels",particularly,"energy wheels". In English literature, the concept of emotions is described as energy in motion, hence when combined together; it is stated as wheels of energy in motion that regulate the nervous system which are the chakras and human emotions. Without further ado, I would like to discuss at length, the emotions linked to each of the chakra.
i) Mooladhara Chakra(Root Chakra)- The Root Chakra governs our need for survival, ambition, stability and dependency. As this chakra is located at the base of the spine, a blocked Mooladhara causes fear and insecurity whereas a balanced root chakra represents, emotions of safety and security, mind focus, sense of belonging, responsibility, drive to live and abundance mindset.
ii) Svadhisthana Chakra(Sacral Chakra)- Given the Svadhisthana Chakra is the 2nd chakra in the system,it is located just above the navel area,in the lumbar spine of the back. It is the centre of fantasies, warmth, empathy and intimacy. A blocked sacral chakra causes anemia, lower back pain,
low energy and joint problems as there are emotions such as fear and anger locked up in this chakra. When this chakra is open, there is heightened awareness and emotional intelligence in the body that leads to healthy boundary setting in relationships.
iii) Manipura Chakra(Solar Plexus Chakra)- The emotion attached to the Manipura Chakra is inner power,self-identity and self-esteem. It provides the source of energy as it governs the functionality of the digestive system. The emotion attached to this said chakra is judgement and criticism. When blocked, one is worried about others judgments on self and when it is overactive,it creates high self criticism and over critical of others.
iv) Anahata Chakra(Heart Chakra)- The 4th chakra, which is the Anahata Chakra is located in the "heart space", in the centre of one's rib cage. In Sanskrit, Anahata means unhurt, unstuck and unbeaten. When the heart chakra is open,we love unconditionally, feel a strong emotional connection to others, create space for others without any judgement, thus forming deeper relationships.Contrarily, when blocked,it causes distance from others, feeling of numbness, resentment towards others leading to isolation.
v) Vishudhha Chakra(Throat Chakra)- The element associated with the Vishuddha Chakra is sound and space. A blocked Vishuddha Chakra makes one unwilling to speak up to defend oneself, inexpressive of opinions, when difficult conversations arise, an individual with a blocked throat chakra may shut down, rather than speak up. When the Throat Chakra is open, there is an
innate sense of willingness to speak up, enjoying open communication and increase of creativity and self confidence.
vi) Ajna Chakra(Third Eye Chakra)- Known as the Brow chakra as it is located at the centre of the forehead, between the eyebrows, symbolizes wisdom, intuition and perception. When the Ajna Chakra is blocked, a soul feels roadblocks in daily life chores, lack of vision, not being able to see the bigger picture; sickness wise, one gets frequent migraines and sinusitis. Contrarily when this chakra is balanced, the soul ascends to higher functions of intuition, imagination, vivid dreams and clairvoyance comes naturally.
vii) Sahasara Chakra(Crown Chakra)- The Sahasara Chakra represents enlightenment, self transcendence which arises when this pertinent chakra reaches higher states of consciousness. The crown chakra is about questioning what we have been taught about the world and creating one's pne worldview perception. When balanced, the soul feels mystical oneness through expanded consciousness. When blocked, the soul is attached to material possessions, the soul develops judgemental perception, close minded to learn new things and emotionally leads to a purposeless life, disconnected from the mind and spirit.
Life energy known as Prana in Sanskrit, ideally flows through the chakras when balanced. Aligning
the chakras assists the energy flow smoothly through the body into the Universe, creating a state of universal connection and well being.
