Handmade Items-Do they carry energy and consciousness imprints?

I quit my teaching job in 2024 as a professor at a UK University. Since then,I have been practicing energy work,healing modalities and writing content. I was honored by receiving many farewell gifts,but one particular gift had my heart,which was a hand painted abstract portrait which I have kept on my remote work desk.

Personally,I have always been drawn to handmade products as they hold the essence of the creator and carries the energy imprint of the maker. What do I mean by energy imprint? When we purchase or receive a handmade product,we receive the creator's time and care,that transferred it into a solidified state. Every thought,every feeling;the creator holds while making the object is carried forwarded in the object and the user senses the vibration of it all.

Think of it as an "energy signature" where the person making objects,food or craft with their hands,holds a vibration in the mind that converts into action the entire time,the person makes the object. The infusion of the intention,emotion and life force is passed onto the handmade items which is known as Prana,in Hinduism and Qi, in Chinese Medicine that imprints an energetic frequency onto the handmade items.(Bukhave et al., 2025,The effects of crafts‐based interventions on Mental Health and well‐being: A systematic review)

In Japanese folklore,it is known as Tsukumogani,which simply means that if handmade items are well taken care of,the consciousness is maintained inside them for a long time,where the user's soul energy emitted on the handmade item is encapsulated in the making of the product and also,the energy of the user gets latched onto.(Reider,Noriko T.(2009), Animating objects: Tsukumogami Ki and the medieval illustration of Shingon truth on JSTOR)

Another spin off to this would be from the angle of how the energy centers of our body is used while making self made items. Human hands are known to have chakras present in their fingers and palms.I would like to take a deep dive into how the energy of our hand chakras create an impact of the products made.

The physical touch of the handmade crafts are energy conduits of a maker's emotional state and energetic state that translate into a finished good during creation,as the palm chakras can feel the frequencies of textures and materials. Also,while purchasing products, most buyers have an urge to feel the product with their hands as the frequency gets transferred to the energy body about the product's easiness and softness.

So why does this happen? The palm chakras channel the energy of the products through sensory preceptors that move up the energy to the arm meridians. The arm meridians are connected to the heart center,thus,any handmade item held,translates our inner emotions and intentions into manifestations. Japanese tradition gives immense value to handmade craftsmanship that discusses about Shokunin,which means working on an aspect of social obligation to perform work on one's absolute best. Furthermore,my interest piqued when I was recently visiting a handloom store and wanted to unravel the occurrence on the nervous system of a human. Some takeaways included-

#1 High Sensory Experience- While visiting the store,I felt to be immersed into the natural scents of the fabrics,the colours soothing the eyes,the touch and feel of the colourful wood, bowls, flutes, carpets created a whole nervous system calm and complete sense of engagement in the store alleys.

#2 Creative Release- Handmade craft heightens creativity that works as a release of difficult emotions and express one's inner world. The intricacies in handcrafted work are known to slow down the prefrontal cortex and get the brain frequencies in flow state.

#3 Therapeutic Effect- When human create craft, there is a release of dopamine and serotonin that enhances self esteem and pride in one's creation. The bilateral movements of the hands increases the brain plasticity and shuts down the brain default network mode that governs the fight and flight responses.

As I move towards concluding my article,handmade craft and art encompasses human effort,a story and ethical footprint that is embedded on each object rather than just a functional utility. It creates a sustenance of cultural heritage and offers deep traditional values.Furthermore,it shows the affection and love of the producer's as a tangible work of art.
